Araria to auction 55 seized vehicles under Prohibition Act
Araria:
The Araria district administration will auction around 55 confiscated vehicles seized under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a public notice issued by the district magistrate’s office, the vehicles—ranging from two-wheelers and four-wheelers to commercial vehicles and bicycles—will be sold through open public auction on "Official Notification” basis on January 9, January 30 and February 5, 2026. The auctions will be held at the DRDA conference hall in Araria and conducted by a three-member committee headed by the additional collector.
Officials said 2-wheelers dominate the list. Hero motorcycles form the largest share, with over 15 bikes including Splendor, Super Splendor, Shine, Glamour and Passion Pro models. TVS follows with around 10 motorcycles, mainly Apache and Sport variants, while Bajaj has about eight bikes, including Pulsar and Platina models. Honda motorcycles—largely Shine—account for two to three vehicles, and Yamaha features with one motorcycle.
Among four-wheelers and commercial vehicles, Mahindra accounts for three vehicles, including Bolero variants. Tata has three vehicles—Tata Magic, Safari and Indigo—while Maruti Suzuki features two cars, including a Zen. The list also includes multiple bicycles and over a dozen scrapped vehicles, which will be auctioned separately at lower reserve prices.
Reserve prices range from ₹500 for bicycles to ₹4.5 lakh for higher-end four-wheelers. Officials said unsold vehicles would be re-auctioned at reduced prices—10% lower in the second round and 20% lower in the third.
Interested bidders will be required to deposit 10% of the reserve price as earnest money, submit valid identity proof and a police-issued character certificate, and be physically present at the auction venue.
Government employees and police personnel are barred from participating.
Officials said the auction aims to decongest police stations and excise depots while generating revenue from long-pending confiscated vehicles. Detailed information is available on the district website, araria.bih.nic.in.
