The District Transport Office (DTO), Dumka, has launched a major recovery drive against vehicle owners who have failed to deposit mandatory road tax dues. In a public notice issued by the department, details of 153 tax-defaulting vehicles have been published, with owners being instructed to clear their outstanding liabilities without delay.
According to the notification, the action has been initiated under provisions of the Road Tax Act and Motor Vehicles regulations, which empower authorities to recover unpaid taxes from registered vehicle owners. The department warned that failure to deposit pending dues may result in further legal proceedings as per applicable laws.

The published list contains comprehensive details of each vehicle, including the registration number, vehicle category, owner's name, father's name, current address, and total outstanding tax amount. Most of the listed vehicles belong to the commercial transport sector, particularly goods carriers, medium goods vehicles, excavators, and construction equipment vehicles operating across Dumka and adjoining districts.
A review of the notice shows that a large number of vehicles are registered as goods carriers, highlighting the transport sector's significant share in the pending road tax recovery exercise. Several vehicle owners have accumulated dues running into tens of thousands of rupees, while some cases involve liabilities exceeding ₹90,000.
Officials have urged all concerned vehicle owners to verify their details and approach the District Transport Office to settle their dues at the earliest. The department emphasized that timely payment of road tax is mandatory for legally operating transport and commercial vehicles on public roads.
