Tirunelveli: The Tirunelveli district police have announced an auction of confiscated and unclaimed vehicles seized over the years, officials said on Tuesday. A total of 308 vehicles will be auctioned in two phases at designated police stations in the district.
According to the notification issued by the Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police, 151 vehicles currently parked at the Palayamkottai and Munnirpallam police stations will be auctioned at the Munnirpallam Police Station on December 29. Another 157 vehicles, stored at the Ambasamudram Police Station, will be auctioned at the same location on December 30.
Interested bidders must register in advance by paying a refundable deposit of ₹5,000 at the Tirunelveli District Armed Reserve Police Office on December 28, between 10 am and 5 pm. Only those who complete the registration process will be allowed to participate in the auction, police officials said.
Authorities added that successful bidders will be required to pay the full bid amount along with 18% GST in cash to take possession of the vehicles. Further formalities related to vehicle transfer will be communicated to the winning bidders at the time of auction.
Police officials said the auction is part of an ongoing effort to dispose of long-pending seized and unclaimed vehicles in a transparent and systematic manner, while also freeing up space at police stations across the district.
