MHADA Housing: Konkan Board Sells 3,768 Unsold Homes, Earns ₹800 Crore; More Houses Likely in Upcoming Lottery
Mumbai: In a major boost for homebuyers, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has successfully sold thousands of previously unsold houses under its Konkan Board projects, generating nearly ₹800 crore in revenue. The development is being seen as a fresh opportunity for people looking to buy affordable homes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
According to officials from MHADA’s Konkan Board, a total of 5,376 housing units had remained unsold for several years across different projects. Through a special sales campaign launched in recent months, the authority has managed to sell 3,768 units, significantly reducing the backlog of vacant homes.
Most of the houses that were sold are located in rapidly developing areas such as Virar Bolinj, Gotheghar, and Bhandarli in the Konkan region. These units had remained vacant for years due to various issues, but renewed marketing efforts and improved purchase conditions attracted strong buyer interest.
Officials said that the last five months witnessed a sharp rise in demand, with nearly 3,570 homes sold during this period alone.
The large-scale sale has generated around ₹800 crore, which will now be used by MHADA to fund upcoming affordable housing projects. Authorities believe the revenue will help accelerate new developments aimed at middle-income and economically weaker sections.
The Konkan Board implemented several measures to speed up the sales process, including:
Discounts on housing prices
Flexible payment terms
Special outreach campaigns for buyers
These initiatives helped revive interest in units that had been lying vacant for years.
Despite the strong sales, several houses are still waiting for buyers. According to Konkan Board officials, 5,320 houses in Shirdhon and 2,744 houses in Khoni remain unsold. These units were part of the 2025 housing lottery and are expected to be included again in upcoming MHADA lotteries.
Officials say the move will provide another opportunity for homebuyers hoping to secure affordable homes in the Mumbai region.
The latest campaign is seen as a significant step by MHADA to reduce vacant housing stock while helping middle-class families realize their dream of owning a home.
