According to the official notification issued from the Collectorate, the vehicles were seized by the police and excise authorities under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016 , and subsequently confiscated by the district magistrate or other competent courts.

Officials said the auction will be carried out by a designated committee in line with departmental guidelines issued earlier this year.

Application process

Interested bidders can submit their applications at the office of the Superintendent, Prohibition & Excise, Madhubani. The last date for submission of applications is March 23, 2026 , during office hours.

Re-auction schedule

In case the auction cannot be conducted on the scheduled date, the department has announced two additional dates:

  • April 4, 2026 (application deadline: April 2)

  • April 9, 2026 (application deadline: April 8)

Payment conditions

The notice states that the earnest money deposit (EMD) must be submitted either in cash or through a bank draft. The draft should be issued in favour of the Superintendent, Prohibition & Excise, Madhubani.

Background

The vehicles listed for auction include those confiscated in prohibition-related cases across the district. As per norms, such vehicles are typically auctioned after legal formalities are completed, and are often sold on an “as-is, where-is” basis.

Madhubani: The Excise Department has announced a public auction of 135 seized vehicles across Madhubani district, most of them motorcycles confiscated under prohibition and excise cases. The auction will be conducted under government norms, with a significant number of vehicles offered strictly for scrap purposes.

According to the official notice, the majority of two-wheelers have been listed with a base price of ₹3,500 , as they are categorized under “scrap purpose only.” A small number of vehicles, including scooters and motorcycles with identifiable registration details, have higher reserve prices ranging from ₹11,000 to ₹58,300 , depending on their condition and documentation status.

The seized vehicles belong to multiple excise and police jurisdictions, including Benipatti, Jhanjharpur, Laukaha, Andhramath, Sakri, Harlakhi, Rajnagar and Madhwapur . These were confiscated in connection with violations under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.

Officials said that the auction will follow an “as-is, where-is” policy, meaning buyers will not be provided any guarantee regarding the condition, fitness or completeness of documents. Vehicles marked for scrap cannot be legally used on roads and are intended only for dismantling or recycling.

The notice also specifies that interested bidders must deposit the required Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) before participating in the auction process. In some cases, the EMD ranges from around ₹2,750 to over ₹14,000, depending on the vehicle’s reserve price.

Authorities have advised prospective buyers to physically inspect the vehicles and verify all details before placing bids. Complete information regarding the auction, including the detailed vehicle list and terms, is available on the district’s official website.

The move is part of ongoing efforts by the excise department to dispose of seized assets and clear pending inventory under prohibition-related enforcement drives.
