New Delhi: In a major initiative aimed at addressing Delhi's growing parking crisis and traffic congestion, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced an ambitious plan to identify more than 3,000 vacant land parcels across the national capital over the next year for the development of surface parking facilities.
As part of the first phase of the project, the authority has simultaneously launched an e-auction for 232 vacant DDA plots , which will be temporarily used as surface parking sites on a licence fee basis. The registration process for the auction will begin on June 25, 2026 , through the official DDA e-auction portal.
According to officials, the first batch of 232 plots is ready for tendering and is expected to accommodate nearly one lakh vehicles once operational.
The identified plots are spread across multiple zones of Delhi:
Authorities believe these parking facilities will provide immediate relief in several residential, commercial and mixed-use areas where roadside parking has become a major challenge.

During the meeting, issues including parking shortages, traffic congestion, encroachments, utilisation of vacant DDA land, and accessibility of DDA parks were discussed.
Officials said the project is intended to create organised parking infrastructure in locations where vehicles are currently parked along roadsides, often leading to carriageway narrowing, bottlenecks and traffic delays.
An official stated that surface parking facilities can be developed relatively quickly compared to multi-level parking projects and can provide immediate benefits in areas facing severe parking pressure.
Under the broader initiative, DDA will prepare a citywide inventory of over 3,000 vacant land parcels that can potentially be converted into public parking facilities without requiring major construction activity.
