The Madurai City Police will conduct a public auction of 51 vehicles seized in ganja smuggling cases on February 10, 2026, officials said on Wednesday. The auction will be held at the Armed Reserve Ground in Madurai, where all seized vehicles are currently parked.
According to a statement issued by the police, the vehicles were confiscated during various operations carried out by the Madurai City Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.

Interested bidders must deposit the following earnest money (EMD) to take part in the auction:
Two-wheelers: ₹5,000
Three-wheelers & Four-wheelers: ₹10,000
The amount must be paid on or before February 8, 2026, at the Madurai City Prohibition Enforcement Wing office. Participants will receive a receipt after payment, which must be produced at the time of auction.
Only those who submit the EMD within the deadline will be allowed to participate.
The vehicles will be auctioned in their existing condition (as-is-where-is basis).
Interested buyers are advised to inspect the vehicles at the Armed Reserve Ground before the auction date.
The police urged the public to participate in the transparent auction process and follow all official guidelines.
The Madurai City Police said that auctioning seized vehicles helps decongest police yards and ensures lawful disposal of assets confiscated in narcotics-related cases.
Madurai District Police to Auction 14 Condemned Vehicles on November 18
The Madurai district police will conduct a public auction of 14 condemned vehicles at the Armed Reserve Ground on November 18. The lot includes eight four-wheelers and six two-wheelers, according to an official release.
The auction is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and only individuals with a valid GST account will be permitted to participate. Eligible participants must register by paying a ₹5,000 fee and submitting a copy of their Aadhaar card.
Prospective bidders can inspect the vehicles at the Armed Reserve Ground until 5 p.m. on November 17.
Winners of the auction must make full payment on the spot, including 18% GST, and take possession of the vehicles immediately, officials added.
A total of 49 vehicles confiscated by the Madurai City Police in connection with ganja smuggling cases are set to go under the hammer on September 22.
According to officials, the auction will be conducted by the Narcotics Drugs Eradication Committee, under the leadership of the Madurai City Commissioner. The seized vehicles include two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers, which are currently stationed at the Madurai Armed Reserve Ground.
Prospective bidders will have the opportunity to inspect the vehicles before the auction. To participate, they are required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of:
₹5,000 for two-wheelers
₹10,000 for three-wheelers and four-wheelers
The EMD must be paid on or before September 19.
Officials noted that the auction provides an opportunity for individuals and businesses to acquire used vehicles while also ensuring that assets linked to criminal activities are repurposed through legal channels.
