In a major relief for thousands of economically weaker and middle-class families, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation has announced the construction of 2,679 new affordable houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the western zone of Rajkot.
The civic body has already floated tenders for the ambitious housing project, which is expected to significantly improve affordable housing availability in the city. Officials said the project has been planned to provide modern residential facilities at subsidised rates for eligible beneficiaries.
According to City Engineer Paresh Adhia, the total estimated cost of the housing project is around ₹348.75 crore. The scheme aims to help lower-income families realise their dream of owning a home in Rajkot.
