The Indian Railways has streamlined its scrap auction process through the IREPS (Indian Railway e-Procurement System) portal — a one-stop online platform where registered bidders can participate in auctions for railway scrap, old machinery, computers, and other e-waste.
With increasing demand from small industries and traders sourcing scrap material, IREPS provides a transparent and fully digital bidding process. Here’s a detailed look at how new users can register and start participating in railway scrap e-auctions.
New users must visit the official website www.ireps.gov.in and click on “New Bidder – e-Auction Sale” under the registration section. The e-Auction module caters to the sale of scrap materials, condemned equipment, and surplus assets of Indian Railways.
To complete the registration, bidders must possess a valid Class III Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) with signing and encryption in the name of the organization. The DSC is used to authenticate the user during login and signing of e-auction documents.
Applicants need to pay a refundable registration fee of ₹10,000, valid for one-time registration.
During the registration process, users must upload:
A notarized affidavit (as per IREPS format)
Company documents such as CIN or PAN
GST number, registered address, and contact details
The firm type (Private Limited, Partnership, Proprietorship, LLP, NGO, etc.) must also be specified in the online form.
Once the registration form and documents are submitted online, applicants receive an acknowledgment with a Request ID. The bidder must then submit original documents (including the affidavit) to the selected Railway Store Depot for verification.
After physical document verification, the registration request is approved by the depot, and users receive a confirmation email from the IREPS system admin with their login credentials.
Upon approval, users can log in to the e-Auction module of IREPS using their Digital Signature Certificate (DSC). The portal displays live and upcoming scrap auctions from all Railway Zones and Divisions — including items such as:
Metal scrap
Rolling stock parts
Office equipment and IT assets
e-Waste and condemned machinery
All financial transactions on IREPS are linked with State Bank of India (SBI) current accounts. Security deposits and bid amounts are automatically managed through the system, ensuring transparency and safety during auctions.
For users seeking assistance with registration or bidding, several third-party service providers and financial consultants offer affordable IREPS registration and training support.
The platform also provides a dedicated helpline and email support for bidders facing login or DSC-related issues.
Experts note that IREPS has become a key gateway for industries seeking quality scrap material directly from Indian Railways, ensuring competitive prices and assured authenticity. With its automated verification and secure bidding mechanism, the system has enhanced efficiency and minimized manual intervention in government scrap disposal.
