Prayagraj: In a major housing initiative aimed at economically weaker families, the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is planning to construct more than 1,500 affordable flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) near Airport Road in Prayagraj. The proposed housing project will come up approximately 500 metres from the upcoming Aero City development , creating a new residential hub close to the city's expanding aviation corridor.
According to officials, the PDA has identified around three acres of land for the project and has initiated discussions with the state government regarding land allocation. Once the required land is formally made available, construction work is expected to move ahead in phases.

The proposed PMAY flats are expected to be priced between ₹5 lakh and ₹7 lakh , making them accessible to low-income families. A significant relief for beneficiaries is that they will be required to pay only 50 percent of the total cost .
The remaining amount will be jointly borne through financial assistance provided by the Central Government and the Uttar Pradesh Government , substantially reducing the financial burden on eligible homebuyers.
Officials indicated that the housing project will comprise six residential blocks , accommodating more than 1,500 flats. The development is part of the broader effort to expand affordable housing options in Prayagraj while supporting urban growth around the airport region.
The proposed location near Aero City is expected to improve connectivity and create long-term value for beneficiaries, thanks to planned infrastructure and commercial development around the airport zone.
If the land transfer process is completed on schedule, the PDA aims to begin construction of the PMAY flats before Diwali 2026 . Authorities also plan to start the booking and sale process while construction is underway.
The flats will be allotted through a lottery system , ensuring transparent distribution among eligible homeless and economically weaker families.
PDA Vice Chairman Rishiraj said that the authority is preparing to develop thousands of affordable housing units under the PM Housing Scheme in multiple locations across the city.
Land is currently being explored in areas including Civil Lines, Naini, Phaphamau and Jhunsi for future PMAY housing projects. Once suitable land becomes available, additional residential developments are expected to be launched to meet the growing demand for affordable homes.
The proposed project represents a major boost for affordable housing in Prayagraj. With government subsidies covering half the cost, the scheme could enable thousands of low-income families to achieve homeownership near one of the city's most strategically important growth corridors.
The combination of PM Awas Yojana benefits , proximity to Prayagraj Airport , and the upcoming Aero City project is expected to make these flats among the most sought-after affordable housing options in the region.
