The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, is working on integrated urban development plans along the 82-km Delhi–Meerut rapid rail corridor.
Rajat Gosain, Group General Manager (Planning), NCRTC, said the proposed zonal and regional master plans are designed to blend housing and commercial projects with the rapid transit system. This approach, he explained, will not only provide convenient access to public transport but also enhance quality of life for residents living near the corridor.
The initiative, discussed during a panel at the 17th NAREDCO National Convention in Delhi, is expected to reshape urban growth in Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. However, Gosain emphasized that the plans will move forward only after receiving clearances from the respective local authorities.
Once approvals are secured, the town-planning process will be undertaken in consultation with key stakeholders. Though NCRTC has not specified a timeline, officials believe the project could bring about major urban transformation along one of NCR’s most important transit routes.
