The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) has issued a public notice asking the registered owners and legal representatives of vehicles seized for transporting prohibited food products to claim their vehicles within seven days . Officials have warned that vehicles left unclaimed after the deadline may be disposed of through auction or any other legally permitted process in accordance with court orders and applicable laws.
The notice was issued by the Office of the Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration, Maharashtra , headquartered at BKC, Bandra (East), Mumbai , and is aimed at clearing long-pending seized vehicles occupying government premises.
According to the FDA, several seized vehicles have remained parked inside the department's headquarters for many years after being confiscated during enforcement actions involving the transportation of banned or prohibited food items .
During the monsoon season , rainwater has been collecting inside these abandoned vehicles, increasing the possibility of breeding mosquitoes responsible for dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases . Officials said the situation has become a matter of public health and sanitation , prompting immediate action.
The department has directed all registered owners, authorised representatives or legal heirs of the vehicles listed in the attached seizure register to submit an application along with supporting ownership documents.
