The Karnataka government has rolled out a major relief measure for vehicle owners with pending traffic fines. From August 23 to September 12, 2025, motorists can clear their dues at 50% of the original penalty under the Police Department’s mobile e-challan system.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged citizens to make use of the limited-time opportunity. He stated that the initiative is aimed at promoting road safety, public convenience, and law-abiding behavior.
The concession applies only to challans issued through the Bengaluru Traffic Police’s mobile e-challan system and not to cases recorded by the Transport Department before 2018–19.
Motorists can settle their dues through:
The official Bengaluru Traffic Police website
The BTP mobile app
Any nearby traffic police station
This move comes after the Commissioner of Transport and Road Safety, Bengaluru, had requested a similar relaxation for older cases. However, the government has limited the relief to e-challans generated under the police system.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have already begun awareness campaigns urging people to take advantage of the scheme before the deadline.
CM Siddaramaiah posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter):
“Our government is committed to promoting road safety, law-abiding behavior, and public convenience. Clear your pending traffic violation fines and follow the rules.”
With over lakhs of pending e-challans in Bengaluru alone, this initiative is expected to ease the burden on citizens while boosting fine collections for the state.
