Karnataka CM Reviews Progress of Housing Projects; Over 94,000 New Homes Approved

Sep 12 2025

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a crucial review meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of housing schemes under both central and state initiatives in Karnataka. The discussion focused on expediting the construction of pending houses and approving new ones to address the state’s growing housing needs.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), a total of 1,73,874 houses have been sanctioned so far. Of these, 47,848 houses have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. Construction is in progress for 13,303 houses, while tenders have been finalized for another 25,815 units.

To complete 7,900 unfinished houses in urban areas, the government has sanctioned ₹134 crore. Plans are also underway to launch construction of an additional 1,26,216 houses under the same scheme.

The State Budget has further allocated funds for the construction of 42,000 houses, which will be distributed to flood victims, widows, single women, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families, and other vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, under the Ambedkar Housing Scheme (Rural), the government has sanctioned nearly ₹900 crore. This year alone, 94,939 houses have been approved, with work already underway on 56,682 units across rural Karnataka.

As part of these housing programs, the government is extending financial support of ₹12 lakh per beneficiary—with ₹6 lakh provided as subsidy and an additional ₹6 lakh facilitated as a loan. This package aims to empower economically weaker families to build new homes of their own.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to social welfare, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that providing affordable housing remains a top priority. “Our focus is to ensure timely completion of pending houses and deliver new homes to those who need them most,” he stated during the meeting.

The housing projects, backed by both subsidies and loans, are expected to benefit thousands of families across urban and rural areas, bringing the state closer to its goal of inclusive development.
