Jalandhar: The Commissionerate Police Jalandhar has announced an open auction of 971 impounded vehicles that have remained parked for a long period at the Traffic Police vehicle yard at Police Lines, Jalandhar.
According to the public notice issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar , the vehicles were impounded under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 during the period from 2013 to 2025 .
The auction has been scheduled for August 26, 2026, at 12 noon at the Hockey Ground, Police Lines, Commissionerate Jalandhar .
The vehicles will be sold through an open bidding process and will be auctioned on an “AS IS, WHERE IS & WHAT IS BASIS.”

The Traffic Police, Commissionerate Jalandhar, said the 971 vehicles have been lying in the vehicle yard for a considerable period.
Before initiating the auction process, the department had published notices in different newspapers asking the respective vehicle owners to get their vehicles released.
Public notices were reportedly published on May 17, May 28, June 17, June 26, July 21 and July 27, 2026 .
Despite these notices, the concerned vehicle owners did not come forward to claim or release the vehicles.
Following the required legal proceedings, the competent court has fixed August 26, 2026, for the auction of these vehicles.
The Jalandhar Police has once again asked vehicle owners who wish to reclaim their vehicles to approach the Challaning Branch, Traffic Police, Commissionerate Jalandhar .
Owners can get their vehicles released by producing valid documents and completing the required legal formalities .
The notice states that vehicle owners must take action within the specified period before the auction. Once the auction process is completed, no claim or appeal from any party will be entertained .

Motorcycles account for the largest share of the auction inventory, with 635 vehicles, followed by 195 scooters, 70 MC/Rehri vehicles and 63 auto/e-rickshaws.
Vehicles Auction List
Anyone wishing to participate in the Jalandhar Police vehicle auction must deposit ₹50,000 as security before participating in the bidding.
Importantly, the department has specified that the security amount will be accepted in cash only . Online payment will not be accepted for this deposit.
The security amount must be deposited up to two hours before the scheduled auction time on the auction date.
Since the auction is scheduled for 12 noon , bidders should ensure that the security deposit formalities are completed within the stipulated time.
Participants must bring their original Aadhaar card along with a photocopy to the auction venue.
The security deposit and identity verification requirements will have to be completed before the bidder can participate in the open bidding.
Potential bidders have been given the opportunity to personally inspect the vehicles before participating in the auction.
The vehicles can be inspected at the Traffic Police vehicle yard, Police Lines, Commissionerate Jalandhar .
The department has made it clear that bidders should inspect the vehicles before bidding because no objection or complaint will be entertained after the bidding process is completed .
The bidding for each vehicle will begin from its fixed reserve price .
No vehicle will be sold below its reserve price.
The notice further specifies that each vehicle will be auctioned separately , meaning bidders will participate in individual bidding for each vehicle.
The Jalandhar Police has issued detailed conditions governing the open auction.

Bidders are therefore expected to inspect the vehicles and satisfy themselves about their condition before participating.
Every bidder must deposit ₹50,000 in cash before participating in the auction.

The entire auction process will be conducted in a transparent manner in the presence of participating bidders .
Every bidder will have the right to participate in the bidding process.
For a successful bidder, the ₹50,000 security deposit will be adjusted against the purchase price of the vehicle .
For unsuccessful bidders, the security amount will be refunded after the bidding process .
The successful bidder will be required to make the stipulated initial payment at the auction venue, while the remaining amount must be deposited within seven days into the bank account provided by the auction committee through the Accountant, Office of the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar.
If the successful bidder fails to deposit the required amount along with the applicable 18% GST within the prescribed period, the auction of that lot will be cancelled .
The lot will subsequently be auctioned again according to the applicable rules.
The notice also states that the second-highest bidder will not have any automatic right over the lot .
The balance auction amount is required to be deposited through a Demand Draft in favour of “Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar” within seven days of the auction.
If the successful bidder fails to deposit the total amount within the prescribed seven-day period, the ₹50,000 security deposit and applicable deposited amount may be forfeited and credited to the government account .
In such a situation, the bidder will have no right to claim a refund of the forfeited amount.
After paying the complete applicable amount, including 18% GST and 2% TCS , the successful bidder must take possession of the auctioned vehicle within seven days .
The cost of transporting or removing the purchased vehicle will have to be borne by the successful bidder.
The auctioned vehicle will be handed over to the successful bidder only after the entire amount due has been paid .
One of the most important conditions is that the vehicles being auctioned are being disposed of as scrap .
The notice specifically states that these vehicles will not have the right to be driven again on public roads .
Therefore, bidders should not treat the auction as an opportunity to purchase a road-legal used vehicle.
Bidders and persons accompanying them are strictly prohibited from bringing weapons, ammunition or other objectionable material to the auction process.
Any bidder violating this condition can be disqualified from participating in the auction and may face legal action .
Any bidder found violating the auction conditions during the bidding process can be declared ineligible on the spot by the auction committee.
For administrative reasons, the auction committee reserves the right to postpone the auction date .
The constituted committee also has the authority to make additions or changes to the auction conditions during the bidding process.
