For the first time, the Haryana government will provide affordable flats to the poor under the Chief Minister Urban Housing Scheme. A total of 7,000 flats will be built across the state, with the process kicking off in Sonipat.
In the first phase, 509 flats will be allotted through an online draw on October 8. The flats are expected to be handed over to beneficiaries by October 17. Five developers in Sonipat have offered these 509 flats.
Surveys are also underway in Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar, Palwal, Panipat, Rewari and Rohtak, where developers have offered about 6,500 more flats. These will be distributed in the second phase, with dates to be announced shortly.
Each flat will measure 200 sq ft and cost around ₹1.50 lakh (₹750 per sq ft). Applicants had deposited ₹10,000 at the time of booking in 2023, when the scheme was first announced. Of the 815 applications, 794 were found eligible after document verification by the Housing for All department.
Flats will be allotted as per the following priority list:
Nomadic tribes
Widowed women
Scheduled Castes
Families with income up to ₹1 lakh
Families with income between ₹1–1.40 lakh
Families with income between ₹1.40–1.80 lakh
The draw will be conducted online through the official HSVP website, monitored by a special government committee to ensure transparency.
Beyond Sonipat, the scheme has seen 69,000 applications across other districts. Of these, 22,000 have been verified, 5,000 are under process, while 42,000 remain pending.
Officials said the initiative will benefit thousands of poor families by fulfilling their dream of owning a home at an affordable price, while also boosting urban development across Haryana.
