Panaji: The Goa Revenue Department has initiated the auction of two vehicles belonging to former members of the managing committee of the Morombi O Grande Tenant Association to recover ₹44.5 lakh allegedly misappropriated from the association.
The Tiswadi mamlatdar has issued a public auction notice for vehicles owned by Nicolau Monteiro and Nicolau Nunes as part of recovery proceedings initiated following a Bombay High Court order issued in October 2023 .
According to the recovery proceedings, a total of ₹59.2 lakh was allegedly misappropriated by members of the association's managing committee from Merces in Tiswadi.
So far, the authorities have recovered ₹14.7 lakh from two defaulting committee members. The remaining ₹44.5 lakh is now being sought through the auction of the two vehicles.
The proceedings are being conducted under the directions arising from the October 2023 Bombay High Court order .
The seized vehicle auction in Tiswadi is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2026, at 3.30pm at the Mamlatdar's chamber.
Tiswadi mamlatdar Dattaprasad Toraskar said the vehicles will be auctioned unless the outstanding amount is paid before the scheduled sale.
The auction will provide prospective buyers an opportunity to bid for the vehicles while enabling the administration to recover the outstanding amount.
According to the auction terms, prospective bidders must deposit ₹10,000 to participate in the public auction.
The highest bid above the reserve price will be considered for acceptance. Once the bid is accepted, the successful bidder will have to immediately pay 25% of the bid amount .
The remaining amount must be paid within the stipulated period specified under the auction conditions.
Authorities have also specified strict payment conditions for the successful bidder.
If the successful bidder fails to pay the balance amount within the prescribed period, the auction sale will be cancelled and the deposit will be forfeited , Toraskar said.
The auction is part of the government's recovery action against the former committee members and is aimed at recovering the remaining amount allegedly misappropriated from the tenant association.
