Goa CM Pramod Sawant Announces Free New Flats for Baina Housing Board Residents Under Major Redevelopment Project

PANAJI: In a major announcement for hundreds of families living in the Baina Housing Board colony , Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has unveiled an ambitious redevelopment project under which the ageing Housing Board buildings will be demolished and replaced with modern residential blocks . As part of the initiative, all existing eligible residents will receive brand-new flats free of cost , offering significant relief to long-time occupants.

The announcement was made during a public programme held at Sada to celebrate the birthday of Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar . Addressing residents and party workers, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to improving housing infrastructure by replacing old and deteriorating Housing Board structures with safe, modern apartments equipped with better amenities.

The proposed redevelopment project is aimed at transforming the existing Baina Housing Board colony into a modern residential complex while ensuring that current residents are not displaced without rehabilitation. Dr Sawant assured that every eligible resident living in the colony would be provided a new flat at no cost , making the redevelopment exercise both inclusive and resident-friendly.

The Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government's focus on strengthening urban housing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for families residing in older Housing Board colonies. The redevelopment is expected to provide residents with safer buildings, upgraded civic infrastructure and improved living conditions.

During the event, Dr Pramod Sawant also distributed housing sanction letters to eligible beneficiaries, highlighting the government's continued emphasis on expanding access to affordable housing across Goa. The distribution of sanction letters formed part of a broader effort to accelerate housing delivery and support families awaiting government-assisted homes.

The redevelopment of the Baina Housing Board is expected to become one of the significant urban renewal projects in the region, benefiting existing residents while contributing to the planned development of the Mormugao area. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance residential infrastructure, improve public amenities and create a more sustainable housing environment for the community.

The announcement has been welcomed by many residents, who are expected to benefit from free replacement flats without bearing the cost of new housing, marking a major milestone in the Goa government's ongoing housing redevelopment initiatives.
