Chandigarh to Auction 700 Prime Plots Monthly — Dream of Homeownership Set to Come True

Oct 15 2025

Chandigarh is set to witness a transformative phase in housing and real estate, as the administration launches initiatives to make homeownership more accessible and streamline property acquisition. From subsidized housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) to monthly residential plot auctions, citizens now have multiple avenues to secure their dream homes in the City Beautiful.

PM Awas Yojana 2.0: Affordable Homes for All

Under the newly intensified ‘Aashiyane Ka Abhiyan’, families across Chandigarh, especially those in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), and Middle Income Group (MIG), can now apply for permanent housing with financial support from the government. The scheme provides:

  • Interest Subsidy: Up to ₹1.80 lakh for eligible beneficiaries with loans of five years or more, offering a 4% interest subsidy on loans up to ₹25 lakh.

  • Eligibility: Families without a pucca house anywhere in India, with annual incomes up to ₹3 lakh (EWS), ₹6 lakh (LIG), and ₹9 lakh (MIG).

  • Home Size: Homes up to 120 square meters carpet area are covered under the scheme.

Awareness Camps Across the City

To help residents understand the benefits and application process, Chandigarh Housing Board organized awareness camps on October 13 and 14 at twelve locations including Sector 42 (Attawa), Sector 41 (Badheri), Village Maloya, Burail, Dadumajra, and Manimajra. Bank officials were present to guide families about loan facilities, eligibility, and the application process.

Eligible families can apply both online at pmay-urban.gov.in or offline at designated government offices once the application process opens. Priority is given to widows, senior citizens, differently-abled persons, transgender individuals, SC/ST/minority groups, sanitation workers, street vendors under PM Svanidhi, artisans under PM Vishwakarma, Anganwadi workers, construction workers, and families residing in slums.

Monthly Residential Plot Auctions

In addition to subsidized housing, Chandigarh residents now have the opportunity to buy land through monthly residential plot auctions. The Estate Department has approved the sale of over 700 vacant plots across fully developed sectors of the city, giving citizens a chance to invest in prime locations.

  • Plot Types: Freehold plots of varying sizes in sectors with excellent infrastructure and connectivity.

  • Auction Details: Monthly sales ensure that those unable to participate in one round can bid in subsequent months.

  • Recent Trends: Last month, 13 plots were sold for ₹168.85 crore, more than double the reserve price, highlighting strong demand.

A notable record was set with the registration of an 8.5 kanal bungalow in Sector 9 at ₹126 crore, generating ₹6.3 crore in stamp duty, marking the highest property registration in Chandigarh’s history. Officials expect these monthly auctions to boost investment, drive infrastructure development, and reinforce Chandigarh’s position as one of India’s most desirable cities to live in.

Looking Ahead

With these initiatives, Chandigarh residents have unprecedented opportunities to own homes—whether through government-subsidized housing or investment in residential plots. The dual approach addresses both affordable housing for needy families and property ownership for aspiring homeowners, signaling a new era of growth and inclusivity in the city’s real estate landscape.
