Chandigarh to Auction 700 Prime Plots Monthly — Dream of Homeownership Set to Come True

Oct 13 2025

The long wait for those aspiring to own a home in the City Beautiful is nearing its end. The Chandigarh Administration has approved a plan to auction residential plots every month, opening opportunities for citizens to purchase land in some of the city’s most sought-after sectors.

According to officials, the Estate Department has finalized the proposal to auction more than 700 vacant residential plots located across developed sectors of Chandigarh. The plan, approved by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav, aims to streamline the auction process and make it a regular feature. Those unable to participate in one month’s auction will have subsequent chances, as sales are scheduled to continue throughout the year.

This will be the first time the administration is putting such a large number of residential plots on auction simultaneously. The plots, of varying sizes, will all be freehold properties situated in fully developed areas, offering excellent infrastructure and connectivity. Authorities expect the initiative to not only boost property ownership but also generate substantial revenue for the UT Administration.

Officials believe the move could lead to a property boom, as Chandigarh’s real estate market continues to outpace neighboring regions such as Panchkula and Mohali, where prices are two to three times lower.

In recent auctions, the administration witnessed a strong response from buyers. The Estate Department sold 13 residential plots last month, fetching ₹168.85 crore in revenue—more than double the reserve price of ₹75.29 crore. Rising collector rates have also contributed to higher property valuations, reflecting robust demand.

In a record-setting transaction, the registration of an eight-and-a-half kanal bungalow in Sector 9 was completed at a value of ₹126 crore, marking the highest-ever property registration in the city. The administration collected ₹6.30 crore in stamp duty from this single transaction, underlining the buoyancy of Chandigarh’s property market.

With monthly auctions now planned, officials anticipate a steady rise in both investment and infrastructure development, reinforcing Chandigarh’s status as one of India’s most desirable cities to live in.
