The Office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs, Airport and Air Cargo Complex, Bengaluru , has announced a major gold jewellery e-auction involving confiscated ornaments seized in multiple customs cases at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) . The auction will be conducted through MSTC under Auction Notice No. 01/2026-27 and offers bidders an opportunity to acquire more than 1.56 kilograms of seized gold jewellery through a transparent online bidding process.
The auction is being conducted in accordance with Paragraph 7.2.4 of the Disposal Manual 2019 , under which an Auction Committee was constituted through an office order dated October 29, 2025 to review and dispose of seized and detained goods lying at the Customs Godown, KIA, Bengaluru.
Officials stated that the gold ornaments have been examined, valued and approved for disposal after scrutiny by the Joint Physical Committee (JPC), making them eligible for public e-auction.

Unlike conventional auctions where items are sold separately, Bengaluru Customs has decided to sell all seized ornaments through one consolidated auction lot . The collection originates from 10 separate Offence Reports (ORs) registered between November 2024 and April 2025.
The combined weight of the jewellery being auctioned is approximately 1,560.60 grams (1.56 kilograms) .

The seized jewellery includes gold items with varying purity levels ranging from 75% to 99% , with several ornaments tested at 99% purity . This makes the auction particularly attractive for bullion traders, refiners and jewellery manufacturers.
According to Customs authorities, the weight, purity and valuation of each ornament were verified by a Customs-approved Jewellery Valuer during Joint Physical Committee proceedings.
The valuation certificates, photographs and item-wise details will be uploaded along with the MSTC auction catalogue to help bidders assess the material before participating.
The auction notice states that the reserve/reverse price for the consolidated lot will be updated separately on the MSTC portal before the commencement of bidding.
This reserve price will act as the minimum acceptable value for the disposal of the seized gold ornaments.
Only MSTC-registered bidders possessing valid GST registration will be eligible to participate in the auction.
To bid, participants must deposit a Pre-Bid Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹10,00,000 .
The successful bidder's pre-bid EMD will be adjusted against the mandatory Post-Bid EMD requirement.
As per Paragraph 8.12.1 of the Disposal Manual 2019:
Failure to comply with payment timelines may result in forfeiture and cancellation of the sale.
The Customs Department has clarified that under CBIC Notification No. 36/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated October 13, 2017 , GST liability on the auctioned goods will be borne by the buyer.
Applicable taxes, duties and statutory levies will be charged separately over and above the final bid amount.

Prospective bidders are permitted to inspect the jewellery and related records between June 19 and July 2, 2026 .
Customs officials have advised participants to thoroughly verify the material during inspection because the sale is being conducted on a strict "As Is Where Is", "As Is What Is", "No Complaint" and "Caveat Emptor" basis .
No complaints regarding quality, purity, quantity or condition will be entertained after bidding.
The MSTC platform has enabled an 8-minute automatic extension facility . If any bid is placed during the closing period, the auction time will automatically extend, ensuring equal opportunity for all bidders and preventing last-minute bid manipulation.
Government gold auctions involving confiscated jewellery are relatively rare and attract significant interest from the bullion industry. Bengaluru Customs (Airport) has announced the auction of 227 electronic goods through MSTC, inviting registered buyers to participate in the online bidding process scheduled for December 30, 2025 .
According to officials, the auction will include a wide range of electronic items such as mobile phones, smartwatches, iPads, and one television set , which were seized or left unclaimed at the airport premises. The sale will be conducted through the MSTC e-auction platform , ensuring transparency and compliance with government norms.
Only MSTC -registered bidders will be eligible to participate in the auction. Interested buyers have been advised to carefully review the auction catalogue, terms and conditions, and inspection details available on the MSTC portal before placing their bids.
Customs officials said the initiative aims to dispose of accumulated goods in a time-bound manner while generating revenue for the government. Successful bidders will be required to complete payment and take delivery of the goods within the stipulated time frame as per auction rules.

Physical inspection of the auctioned material is scheduled from December 16 to December 29, 2025 . The e-auction will commence on December 30, 2025, at 12 noon and will conclude at 4.30 pm on the same day. As per the catalogue, the auction status is currently marked as Not Activated . The auction will feature an auto-extension time of eight minutes .
The auction will be conducted in Indian Rupees (INR) . It is not an auto pre-bid EMD auction, and no document uploads are required. Successful bidders will be required to deposit the post-bid EMD within seven days from the date of acceptance of the lot, unless otherwise specified. The full or balance payment must be made within 21 days from the date of acceptance.
A late payment penalty of 1% per week , along with applicable GST, will be levied in case of delays. Delivery of the material must be taken within 30 days of the issue of the delivery order , failing which ground rent at 1% per week plus GST will be applicable.
