The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched an ambitious housing initiative to provide over 10,000 affordable flats for low- and middle-income families across the city. The project, valued at ₹1,406 crore, aims to offer 1BHK and 2BHK homes priced between ₹7 lakh and ₹30 lakh, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0.
The initiative covers both eastern and western zones of Ahmedabad, targeting citizens from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG) categories. Construction will take place at 30 locations throughout the city, with the goal of completing and handing over the houses before the 2027 Assembly elections.
EWS Units: 1BHK flats, approximately 35 sq. meters, priced around ₹7 lakh each.
LIG Units: 2BHK flats (61 sq. meters), some including a small study room, priced between ₹28–30 lakh.
Each project will feature amenities such as parking, lifts, gardens, CCTV, and STP plants.
AMC officials stated that application forms will be released in phases, ensuring transparency and accessibility for applicants.
Large plots with dilapidated buildings or staff quarters will be redeveloped, providing residents with newly constructed houses at nominal maintenance costs. Many of these sites are in Dudheshwar, Shahibaug, Jamalpur, Gomtipur, Viratnagar, and Asarwa, where old structures built for municipal staff have become unsafe over time.
The project also includes rehousing for slum dwellers and Chandola Lake residents who had valid proof of residence prior to 2010. Around 2,500–3,000 EWS units are expected to be built in that area.
According to Mukesh Patel, Chairman of the AMC Housing Committee and BJP Corporator from Viratnagar Ward,
“Our goal is to ensure every hardworking citizen in Ahmedabad has the opportunity to own a home. Under PMAY 2.0, we’re developing new houses for EWS, LIG, and slum residents, while also redeveloping older municipal housing.”
AMC’s Housing Project Department has already approved several tenders, including:
2,623 EWS units
2,497 slum redevelopment houses
1,233 LIG units
3,794 PMAY homes
Construction across Motera, Koteshwar, Charodi, Nana Chiloda, Shilaj, and Asalali is expected to start soon, with completion targeted within two years.
Once finished, the project will not only provide affordable housing but also revitalize urban infrastructure and offer a significant boost to Ahmedabad’s real estate and employment sectors.
